Results of Cycle Parking Survey Published

coveredbikerackChester Cycling Campaign has completed an extensive survey of cycle parking facilities in and around the city. This is has been a thorough survey conducted by a team of Campaign members who have logged the details of every cycle rack they could find, including the location, the type of racks and the number of racks.

In addition, while volunteers have been auditing what is already available, they have also been listing places where they feel additional cycle parking should be installed. The results of all of this work have now been published in the two reports below. The reports show that while some areas have adequate provision, other parts of the ciy have woeful provision, the Greyhound Retail Park being one notorious example.

Have a look at the reports and let us know if you spot any gaps. We want the information held in the database to be as complete as possible, as the data is to be fed into the CDT planning process.

Report Hazardous Potholes For Quick Response

June 9, 2009 by Webmaster
Filed under Get Involved, Report Hazardous Potholes

Potholes in roads present a particular hazard for cyclists – either because they have to swerve to avoid them or risk coming off or damaging their bike if they ride over them.

Initial indications are the the new Cheshire West and Chester Council respond quickly to reports of hazardous potholes.  One Campaign member found that the Council had filled a hole in his road within 48 hours of it being reported through the CTC’s Fill That Hole website.

Any member of the public can visit the Fill That Hole website to report potholes in the road.  All reports are forwarded on to the relevant Highway Authority for priority action.  If any accidents to cyclists occur at the reported site after the report, the CTC will be able to provide legally valid evidence of the report.

If you do report a pothole to the council using the CTC’s website, you may wish return here to submit a comment describing the outcome and speed of response.

Suggest a Bike Rack Location

Filed under Make Suggestions About Bike Parking

Ever cycled to your destination and found that there was no where to secure your bike? If cycling levels are to increase, then it needs to be made as easy as possible for people to leave their bikes safely and securely while they go about their business.

The Cycle Demonstration Town project may be able to make grants to businesses and other organisations for the installation of bike racks.

Bike RackThe Chester Cycling Campaign is currently carrying out an audit of existing locations so that these can be mapped. The next step will be to identify locations that might benefit from new or additional racks.

If you have any ideas of good locations for bike racks, then please leave a comment here and we will ensure that your suggestions are passed on the the CDT team.

Thanks!

Two Way Cycling in One Way Streets

Some cities have implemented a policy of allowing two-way cycling in one-way streets as a means of favouring cycling as a transport mode.  In some circumstances, this can cut journey times by bike significantly.
bikearrowsign
The Chester Cycling Campaign is canvassing views on whether this could be implemented in Chester.  It has the advantages of being relatively inexpensive to implement and of being popular with cyclists.

Do you have any suggestions of roads in Chester where this could be implemented?  This could be a ‘Quick Win’ for the Cycle Demonstration Town project, and we want to make sure that any suggestions are passed on to the council.  Add your suggestions by adding a comment.

Thanks for any ideas you can contribute!
