Sign the Petition – Make Hoole Bridge Safer for Cyclists

Hoole Road Bridge
Hoole Road Bridge

Those who cycle over Hoole Road Bridge regularly will be aware of just how dangerous it can be. It is one of the priorities on the list of improvements sought by the Chester Cycling Campaign. The bridge is a potential death trap for both cyclists and pedestrians. When wheelchair users or those with children in buggies encounter others going in the opposite direction on the pavement, this results in someone needing to venture into the roadway to pass.

Cyclists caught between the pavement and heavy goods vehicles have a particularly unpleasant crossing, and this puts many Hoole residents off from cycling into town.

A petition has been started to try and improve the situation. It would be helpful if all website visitorsĀ could sign this petition in order to try to put pressure on the council to take steps to improve the situation. Click the link below to sign the petition:

  1. A planning application has been submitted to use the Chester Enterprise Centre as a car park. The application has been made without any attempt to measure the impact on the traffic on Hoole Road (A56). The junction with the private road is already very dangerous – both for pedestrians and cyclists crossing Hoole Bridge and for existing heavy traffic, much of which turns right across the main traffic flow when exiting the builder’s yard and already causes problems. If granted, there will be at least an additional 200 vehicle movements/day entering and exiting the private lane by the builders’ yard onto Hoole Bridge, making it even more dangerous than at present. If you agree that such a plan would be detrimental, please submit your own objection via the CWaC website. The application reference is 17/03106/FUL and can be found at https://pa.cheshirewestandchester.gov.uk/online-applications/applicationDetails.do?activeTab=summary&keyVal=OT3AOVTEM2M000

  2. Yes this bridge is a nightmare. Too narrow to cycle on pavement too, which i dont like doing but have to on this bridge as it’s so dangerous.

  3. IT IS A DISGRACE THE SCUMBAG COUNCIL DID NOTHING ABOUT IT IN 2007 WHEN THE BRIDGE WAS CLOSED FOR SEVERAL MONTHS. IT IS A DEATH TRAP.
