Thanks to efforts by local Garden Quarter ward councillor Bob Rudd, the final section of canal towpath by the canal basin has finally been paved. This 40 metre stretch has annoyed cyclists and walkers, as its muddy and puddled surface contrasted with the rest of the canal towpath which was paved about 15 years ago.
The ‘missing link’ was left unpaved due to plans to develop the canal basin, plans which have not come to fruition until recently. The aim was that the developers of the canal basin project would pave this section as a condition of the planning consent.
The developers have now been persuaded by Bob to finish the job after the area around the new canal basin flats was finished with attractive, high quality paving stones. Garden Quarter residents can now walk and cycle into town without getting covered in mud!
