The Millennium Greenway will be closed for 12 days to enable Sustrans to carry out substantial repairs to the path surface which has become seriously cracked and uneven in places.
The Chester Greenway will be closed from 8:00 am on December 9th to 4:00 pm on December 20th between Saughall Road in Blacon and the access at Queensgate (off Parkgate Road). The access point at Saughall Road will be closed but users can access or exit the track via The Glen. There will be no access to the University from the main Chester Greenway but the access from the A5480 (Deva Link) to the university will remain open. There will be no access to or from the canal towpath.
The work is planned to take place in phases and Sustrans will reopen both accesses as soon as possible.
The map below shows the official diversion route as planned by Sustrans.
An alternative diversion is possible via the Queensgate access point onto Parkgate Road. Then follow the stretches of cycle path north to Parkgate roundabout where Blacon Avenue can be followed as far as Saughall Road where the Greenway can be rejoined for journeys west towards Wales.
