Try Out the Merseyrail Bike & Go Scheme

Merseyrail has rolled out its new bike hire scheme across local stations, enabling rail users to hire a bike cheaply for the day.

Bike & Go is a new scheme that lets you hire a bike from participating train stations and continue your journey quickly and easily under your own steam. Annual registration is just £10.00 a year and bike hire is £3.80 a day.  To use the scheme, you:

  1. Register your credit or debit card details and pay the annual subscription fee
  2. Receive your Bike & Go card in the post
  3. Check availability at your chosen station
  4. Hand in your Bike & Go card at the station’s ticket office to collect the key to your bike
  5. The rental fee will automatically be charged at the end of every month
  6. Unlock the bike from the station and ride away
  7. Return the bike to the station, lock it and return the key to ticket office

The scheme may be extended to include Chester at some stage, but at present, local stations offering Bike & Go are:

  • Aintree
  • Ellesmere Port
  • Formby
  • Hooton
  • Liverpool Central
  • Liverpool South Parkway
  • Maghull
  • New Brighton
  • Ormskirk
  • Southport
  • West Kirby

  1. Bikes also travel free with dedicated spaces on all merseyrail trains, and you also have to return the bike to the same station as you got it from, to prevent bunching of bikes at more popular stations.
