Bike parking spaces at Chester railway station have more than tripled in number, making it much easier for cyclists to find a space. Previously bike parking spaces were at a premium as more and more people discovered the convenience of using a bike to get to the station. Now Arriva Trains Cymru, in partnership with Network Rail, has installed ‘double-decker’ bike racks, boosting capacity from a meagre 48 to a whopping 157.
The train operator has also invested in extra CCTV at the station so commuters can rest easy that their bikes are being watched over.
There are two sets of new double decker racks. One set behind the Costa coffee shop accessible along a paved path from the station car park by the mini roundabout. The other set is near the existing racks just past the ticket office.
The Chester Cycling Campaign has been pushing for better facilities at the station for years, and celebrates this development which will make it much more convenient for rail users to use their bikes.
